David Adelman’s first coaching staff is official.
The Nuggets announced Adelman’s crew will be made up of nine assistants, three player-development coaches, and two video coordinators Wednesday afternoon.
Four of the assistants – Andrew Munson, Ognjen Stojakovic, John Beckett, and Elvis Valcarcel – are holdovers from Michael Malone’s staff. Jared Dudley, JJ Barea, Mike Moser, Chase Buford, and Rodney Billups are the five new faces. Dudley and Barea each spent more than a decade playing in the NBA before starting their coaching careers. Moser played abroad before working with the Mavericks, Celtics and Rockets. Buford, who spent last season on Bill Self’s staff at the University of Kansas, is the son of R.C., the CEO of the San Antonio Spurs. Billups, younger brother of Chauncey, needs no introduction around here after playing and coaching at the University of Denver before working with his brother in Portland.
The player-development staff features three familiar faces. Travess Armenta played at Longmont High School and the University of Northern Colorado and worked in the Sacramento Kings’ video department before joining the Nuggets. Sean Nolen also played for the Bears before coaching at Colorado Academy. He has been with the Nuggets since 2022. Cam Griffin played at the University of Denver and later worked under his former coach, Joe Scott, at Air Force before joining the Nuggets in 2022.
Ben Potts will lead Denver’s video department, while also working on the player-development side of things. Aziz Leeks will assist Potts on the video staff and also contribute to player development. Potts is a University of Colorado graduate who most recently served as the University of Alabama’s video coordinator. Leeks played at the University of Idaho and worked as a graduate manager at Santa Clara prior to his time with the Nuggets.
